Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are numerous components that make up a lift truck. The forklifts major parts consist of the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. In addition, a forklift has a variety of attachments. All the components that make up a forklift are all important because they work together to make the machine's operation possible. The next paragraphs describe a few of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the lift truck's metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are using the machinery. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls inside the cab or harm the driver. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on various units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is attached to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that keeps a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are numerous kinds of attachments which can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Moreover, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so forth. These various attachments are useful for transporting various kinds of loads.
