There are some steps involved in purchasing a used or new forklift truck. Think about the following things prior to making a decision.
Step 1: What are your needs?
Consider the types of loads you will be lifting and how heavy they normally are. Consider the maximum lifting height which you will need. Determine whether you would be using the forklift indoors or outdoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and calculate how much maneuvering space there is. What will be the duration of use every day in terms of hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best option?
Buying a used forklift is a good idea if you would just use it four hours the most a day.
Step 3: Fuel options
As electric forklifts are relatively quiet and produce no exhaust emissions, they are suitable for indoor use. They have big batteries which could last eight hours before recharging is required. The cost of purchasing electric forklifts is higher, but the operating costs are lower. On the plus side, they do not need space for fuel storage. They also tend to last longer because they have less moving components. On the other hand, the time it takes to recharge the battery should be factored in. This can as long as 16 hours, including recharging and cooling. And battery recharging stations may be needed.
Step 4: Tire choice
Forklifts have cushion tires. There are some options when it comes to tires. Several are fabricated of solid rubber, some are inflated, and some combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor operation, cushion tires are recommended. For outdoor applications, pneumatic tires are best. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by rough terrain or sharp things so they are the best alternative for risky conditions.
Step 5: Think about additional alternatives
When buying a used or new forklift truck, think about additional options. Look at the different types of attachments which you might require to customize your forklift. Check out the ergonomics and safety features of the lift truck
Step 6: Evaluate your options
It is a good idea to rent different models and brands and know what meets your needs the best. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This will ensure that the model you finally purchase is the correct one for all your needs. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
