How to Correctly Utilize a Forklift
Lift trucks are material handling machines which can transport cargo. Most commonly, these machinery are used in some industries to move heavy materials in various settings like warehouses, airports and supply companies. Anybody operating a forklift has to be trained to cautiously utilize the machine. It is vital to be completely aware of one's environment when driving a forklift. Lift trucks are designed to run on gasoline, propane, diesel or batteries. Typical forklifts are popular in a wide range of commercial applications and are really not difficult to operate with correct training. The following steps outline the fundamentals of operating a lift truck:

1 Familiarize yourself with the levers that would be used to maneuver the load and to move the item from one location to another. The levers can be found to the right of the steering wheel.
2 The first lever can move the forks up and down. Pushing the lever away from your body moves them down and pulling the lever towards you moves the tines up. Tines must always be kept close to the ground except when unloading or loading.
3 The other two levers control the tilt as well as the left/right movement of the blades. The tines are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is recommended that you practice before picking up a load. Utilizing the second lever, push it away from your body to tilt the blades forward, and pull it towards your body to tilt the tines back.
4 The third lever is moved side to side to control the movement of the forks from left to right. Simply move the lever in the direction of where you want the forks to move: left in order to move the forks left, and right to move the forks right.
5 Always approach a cargo carefully. Lower the forks and carefully drive forward until the tines slide under the load. Next lift the blades a few centimeters by pulling the lever towards you. If the cargo is top-heavy, you should tilt the forks backwards a little for balance.
6 Safe driving regulations comprise taking corners slowly and honking to warn pedestrians or other personnel that the forklift is approaching. Approach the place where you would be working carefully. Control the levers to maneuver the cargo to where it is going. When the cargo is positioned, reverse gears and back away cautiously.
7 Forklifts stop in much the same way as other kinds of vehicles. The brake is located to the left side of the accelerator. When stopped, put the gear into "park."
